Baisakhi celebrations kicked off in the city with lots of enthusiasm this Friday. The event, organised by World Punjab Organisation (WPO), saw many bhangra and giddha performances. Justice JS Khehar was awarded
Punjab Rattan Award at the do.
Talking about the event, Vikramjit Sahney, International President, WPO, said, “We have come together to celebrate the spirit of Punjab and to celebrate the hardworking Punjabi entrepreneurs.
Though we organise this event every year, this time we have focussed on Punjabi music. Artists have performed folk and Sufi music, along with bhangra and giddha. Sufi music has been an integral part of Punjab’s music culture. The purpose of today’s programme was also to promote Sufi music among Punjabis.”

The show was also a good chance for many Punjabis in the city to mingle with friends and relatives.
Puneet Munjal, member of WPO, said, “Such community programmes are a great way to mingle with friends and distant relatives whom we don’t get to see often. Vikramjitji also showed the video of his song against drug abuse in Punjab. So the event also gave out an important social message.”
